Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of Seminal Sci-Fi Film ‘Blade Runner’

After revisiting his classic Alien with the upcoming 3D Fox film Prometheus, Ridley Scott is committing to direct and produce a film that advances his other seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film. Scott has signed on to direct and produce a new installment of Blade Runner. He’ll make the film with Alcon Entertainment, producing with Alcon partners Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. This would be the most high profile project for Alcon since The Blind Side.

Harrison Ford seems rejuvenated after Cowboys & Aliens, so maybe they’ll bring him back too.

Maybe bordering on obsessive, because I also bought both soundtracks, which are fantastic!

Since the movie official opens today, lots of reviews are hitting (they’re mostly all positive). Here are two of my favorites:

Movie Review: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World – Perfect KO by Adam Quigley

In 15 to 20 years from now, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will be seen as the defining movie of its respective generation, and if it isn’t, it should be. No movie has better encapsulated and satirized the interests and temperaments of contemporary youth, and no future movie is likely to surpass it…continue reading

Massawyrm delights in the double meanings and warm gooey center of SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD by Massawyrm

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD is a searing, incredibly touching comedy that hits everything it aims at and works on multiple levels. It is not, as it might appear, hipster-driven popcorn fare, but rather a wonderfully constructed fairy tale with an awful lot to say about the human condition. This isn’t just a great film – it is very easily Top 10 material. There is so much going on here, so much to parse out, that I find it impossible to dismiss as merely fun. SCOTT PILGRIM is brilliant – in every sense of the word. And it should be viewed and digested at the earliest opportunity. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED…continue reading

Both reviews really get it right. So go see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ASAP!

I’ve been a fan of Danny Elfman since Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, which was his first film score and Tim Burton‘s first film.

Here’s a great quote from the interview – the rest is good too:

Match Made in Wonderland: Danny Elfman’s Music, Tim Burton’s Freaks

“My score was not going to be about the Mad Hatter or the Red Queen,” Elfman says. “The ‘falling down a hole’ music is going to be wild, crazy falling-down-a-hole music. Two armies meeting — I can almost write that automatically. That’s the easy part. The hard part is Alice’s trajectory. I needed the music to tie it all together as she goes from this kind of confused child to a bewildered young lady to becoming Alice as a hero who finds herself in the center of this big story where she has a huge part to play.” Continue reading at Wired.com

I’ve had the Alice in Wonderland score playing for a few days now and love it!

Here’s what I had to say about it in a tweet for @theanimeblog:

“Just saw the trailer for the new A-Team movie. It alternates between awesome and horrible. You’ll see: http://bit.ly/7j5GOO”

I’m sure we’ll see several trailers before the release date. The A-Team comes out in theaters on June 11, 2010.

“In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.”

Today’s Sci-Fi Drawing of the Day is from Avatar, the amazing film by James Cameron just made over a billion dollars worldwide. So I decided to do a really, really quick (seriously – two minutes tops) sketch of Neytiri, the Na’vi played by Zoe Saldana.

This is my first Avatar sketch, so I hope you like it! I might even do an actual drawing.

So remember my Monster-A-Day Halloween Drawings during the whole month of October? Well, I’m trying to do something similar – only this time, it’s now called Sci-Fi Drawing of the Day.
