The trick with designing backgrounds for Twitter is to make it look like part of the site. Here’s my latest custom Twitter background design for PhysicianFuture.com:
The most difficult part of this design was coming up with a sidebar width that wouldn’t always get cutoff by the browser window. Since Twitter’s layout is always centered, if you keep your browser window really narrow, your sidebar looks stupid ’cause it’s cutoff.
I finally decided on a width that fit a standard 1024px width.
