After work yesterday, I raced home to watch the first trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar in HD. I’ve been eagerly waiting Mr. Cameron’s return to an original science fiction story (with photo-real creatures and enviros in 3D), so you could imagine my excitement over the trailer. Well, it did not disappoint, and in fact exceeded all of my expectations. And I haven’t even seen any footage in 3D yet! Here’s the embedded trailer:

Here’s a brief synopsis of Avatar:

In Cinemas Worldwide December, 2009 – In the epic action adventure AVATAR, James Cameron, the director of Titanic, takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination. On the distant moon Pandora, a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

I think the the war with the Na’vi in Avatar looks heartbreaking. This is going to be a good one…regardless of what the <del datetime="2009-08-21T16:10:01+00:00">idiots</del> fanboys say.

I’ll be working on a few sketches based on imagery from the trailer, so I’ll post them when they’re ready.
